Pierce laughs of Vold predictions
29th July 2008 - Alvely boss starts prediction war (Andy Pierce)
Alveley Wolves boss Andy Pierce was quick to laugh off the comedy predictions prepared by Vikings manager Kjetil Vold today.
"Apparently we are going to lose away at the Kittens and Burndean and at home to Harbour and Vikings so I am thinking about sacking myself now" laughed Pierce
"I'm surprised" Continued Pierce "the only one of those I had us to drop points in is the Harbour game as even with the side I have now I probably wont win all four - suffice to say the Vikings game has taken on new significance now"
"What is even more surprising, is Vold has just rebuilt my side for me and has been telling me how good the players are that I have bought off him!"
Wolves have been encouraging recently. The ‘big gamble’ by Pierce of letting Robinson go to bring in Bebe Puffifi seems to be paying off with the midfielder putting in two spectacular performances to start his Alveley career.
The remodelled midfield is creating goals and Wolves now have several excellent strikers to choose from. The defence is generally solid with Kardell running the show and the belief at Alveley is that the squad is now in place to spur the club on and move back into the top four.
Norwegian Vikings boss predicts close title race
29th July 2008 - What might happen......(Kjetil Vold)
Norwegian Vikings boss Kjetil Vold, taking a break from rubbing his players, has released the following excel based chart, to try and predict the end
of season tables.
There are probably no surprises with Kjetil predicting that it will be neck and neck between Gunners and Mighty Bears. Either way will be a first in
recent years, with Bears attempting to win back to back titles for the first time since Morefield in the 90s and Gunners to win the season after
being promoted, not done since Kings Albion over 25 years ago.
Will any of the other managers respond with their thoughts?....
Kjetil's predictions
Vikings' puzzle close to completion
22nd July 2008 - "Champions League place is on" says manager (Kjetil Vold)
Norwegian Vikings has had a troubled mid-season with some new players traded in and some blend problems in-between them. Manager Vold has tried different team set-ups every week for about two months but it wasnt until this week's pre-match press conference he revealed that the "puzzle is close to complete":
"It is a challenge when big names like Rimmington, Lambrotta and Cassiri is struggling to connect on the pitch. Lambrotta has been moved from midfield to defence and back to midfield again. It has also affected our strikers that havent been in form lately. We did some studies this week, however, on our recent games and the result was very positive. What we discovered, among many things, was that the pairing of Fajer and McIntyre has been very productive - where they both score and perform well. In defence it looks like Sabadini (DEFC) might be the key to our right back problem and then releasing Lambrotta to play as holding mid".
This is very exciting news to the Vikings' fans who still hope they can manage to grab a CL-spot as the season runs into it's last third. This is a good week for testing the new team set up as they host Poeleans, or "pucking foeleans" as the fans like to call them. A win is expected.
Andi Thornton leaves Morefield post
18th July 2008 - European Champions draw up managerial shortlist (Steve Delaney)
In a not entirely surprise move, Andi Thornton left the post of manager of European Champions Morefield last night, after an indifferent season
so far. Last season's run in, that culminated in lifting Europe's finest prize, seems a distant memory now and the 1st Leg defeat at Italians
Inter Valencia (2-3) in the Last 16, seems to have been the last straw. The club have also occupied a place two thirds down the league table for
much of the seasona and it would appear that Thornton felt he had taken the club as far as he could.
"I'd like to thank the supporters who have kept their vocals down during the rough patch we've endured this season. It's been a difficult time
but I still think the next manager has the squad here for real success. Last season was very special to me and proved the squad has what it takes
to compete at the highest level. I'm personally very proud of the fact I was a European Cup winning manager."
The vacancy should be one coveted by many managers. Morefield are the most successful club in the world with six Champions League wins, seven domestic
title wins and three Elite Cup wins.
An early runner is bound to be Trinity Heath manager Steve Delaney, the man responsible for the bulk of that historical success although he has at
the moment been quick to distance himself from the job.
"I'm flattered but have been there and done that. There's plenty of work to do at Trinity Heath so I don't really want to speak about Morefield"
Bebe declares "I like it here" as Tinkler and Thorpe hit it off.
18th July 2008 - News from recent Alveley Wolves squad changes (Andy Pierce)
Alveley Wolves boss Andy Pierce was today given a selection dilemma as his new look side dismantled minnows Seraing in the Cup Winners Cup.
The re-modeled side gave a debut to playmakers Abidio and Bebe Puffifi and striker Tinkler E all of which scored added to a hatrick from returning striker Thorpe who displayed instant and perfect blend with Tinkler.
no one will be getting carried away as the opposition was poor. That said, it was no poorer than other sides Alveley have faced and struggled to dispatch recently.
The main focus was on Bebe Puffifi who has been dubbed more like Teddy than Teddy. The midfielder was given license to run the team by Pierce and a performance rated by Opta stats at 132 proved it has potential for the future.
After the game Bebe spoke of his relief at playing again and how pleased he was to be valued by his manager "At Cohrigg the boss just never figured out how to get the most out of me but I like what we are trying to do here and it should be a success. I like a lot of the ball and have faith in my ability to make something happen.
The front boys played really well, Thorpe set up 2 and scored 3 and he will be looking to carry that on in our next game. I believe the boss has a couple more players coming in and that can only be good.
I have heard the names of Hetfield J and Barreto B mentioned and I rate both players so I hope they come.
Pierce described himself as very happy but cautious.
As a sub story to this one it has been confirmed by the club that Jashai and Convey DJ are to be sold. Youngster Convey is performing at a high level and has wonderful ability as has Jashai who is older. It is believed the pair will be offered in exchange for a central defender.
Nerves fraying for top sides in Premiership as all are tested
4th July 2008 - ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP REVIEW (Steve Delaney)
Mighty Bears lost ground this week despite a Beck P hattrick and a display that really should have brought home maximum points, rather than the solitary
one at home to European Champions Morefield. In a 3-3 draw Bears had fallen behind to goals from Sajacec and Walton A but Beck P showed why he's
been labelled the "new Teddy" for a few seasons now with his first treble in over two seasons, the first a chip over the 'keeper when one on one (no
mean feat against MOM Mencha in goal), the second to round off a pass from Rooney and the third again a one on one with Mencha but this time even more
difficult but dispatched all the same.
But that goal midway through the second half wasn't the last act. Defender Walton A was again involved and Bears Gurenko didn't get tight enough on
Paulo Trecall, who levelled with a solid strike. Still plenty of time left but a valuable two points dropped; good resilience from Morefield though.
League leaders Gunners XI looked set to follow last week's shock defeat (Poeleans 0-1) with another poor result when Northroad Legends took them all the way,
only to be denied with a very poor referee decision with five minutes to go in the game. The England combination of Teddy and Hollifield combined before
the game was 10 minutes old, Teddy's free kick headed in by an unmarked Hollifield at the far post but Legends were back on level terms only five minutes
later. Calcutt ironically beat the opening goalscorer Hollifield to the bye line and his cross was well headed home by Italian midfielder Fraioli for
1-1. The game remained tight and a deserved draw for Northroad on the cards when Croxford drifted into the box and clearly and cleverly fell over the
tamest challenge by Alteez I. Teddy stepped up to the plate and undeterred by the jeers he sent Poscetti the wrong way and kept the Gunners three
points clear at the top. How important will that spot kick be?
2nd placed Kingsbury Wolves faced unexpected resistence from bottom club Barefoot Barbarians, finally winning 2-1 but not before some worrying moments.
Kingsbury played well enough but the break wouldn't come until the match was an hour old, Cabernet's freekick headed in by Deu, who had ghosted in at the
back. Then a nice move with five minutes left in the match saw the "three B's" provided the cushion. Borgetti J squeezed a pass out wide to Bonibana and
the outstanding and potential player of the season crossed for Bubunski to volley home.
Then came the slight wobble...Barefoot had really not played that badly and they took advantage of a switched off Kingsbury when Miroves B cleverly
worked off a free kick to set up Bruce Nasby and the youth striker netted for 1-2. Fortunately for KW there was no time left to panic and they remain
just two points off the top.
We save the most dramatic for last! Level on goal difference with Mighty Bears, Harbour F.C. were involved in one of the most extraordinary matches of the
season when, in total control and sublime at Trinity Heath, they somehow managed to get involved in a 12 goal thriller before finally securing all the
points. It said a lot for both sides that when they launched attacks they were clinical enough to provide an end result and for Heath, although it was
yet another defeat (four in five now) they have a genuine threat up front now, with Ray Suarrez and Besty interacting as if they've played all their
lives together.
But for Harbour it was a case of class will always tell and in Gelabi P they have that. A probable offside Besty netted the opener for the home side before
the Italian netted the equalizer, despite an illegal attempt by Manning B to stop him. The unlucky Manning B then was adjudged to have fouled Gelabi P and
Tlale U put Harbour ahead, with Gelabi P cementing the lead after 38 minutes. But then Ray Suarez pulled a goal back with a stunning finish with the
outside of his left foot, the shot taken so early that Guion didn't even move for it.
Seconds later though Gelabi P had given Harbour a 4-2 half time lead, the Heath defence just not at the races with closing down space between them and
he had a load of time to pick out his spot. After the break Tlale U made it 5-2 to the visitors as Gelabi P again caused problems, this time winning a
free kick that ultimately led to the goal and it appeared that Harbour were home and dry with a 6th goal when Gelabi P crossed for man of the match
Roberts B to head home for his first goal in four months. And with the Heath defence in total disarray Harbour netted their 7th of the game, Killa being
allowed what seemed a full 90 minutes on the ball before finally sending the home side keeper the wrong way.
A lot of sides may well have collapsed completely at 2-7 down after only 52 minutes but to their immense credit and possibly interesting future, Trinity
Heath were not done yet. Yet again Ray Suarrez delivered a quality goal after a clever reverse pass from Galeana (3-7) and then Besty and Crown worked a
freekick for on loan (and dreadfully unhappy to be so) teenage striker Boukraa M to head in (4-7). And with 15 minutes to go Henry K slipped a peach of
a pass through to Besty and the Portuguese striker was quick enough to beat the offside trap and slot home (5-7). A Harbour reeled Besty almost made it
six but this time Guion was equal to the chance and an incredible 5-7 the game ended.
Afterwards Trinity Heath manager Steve Delaney paid tribute to his side despite shipping seven goals...
We obviously have a mountain of work to do at the back still but we were up against a world class side that took their chances. What encouraged me was that
world class side was unable to stop us moving forward as a team and the front two and Galeana were really excellent today. We're still in the market for
a holding midfielder and perhaps a bit more flair on the wings too and we need to get someone in to strengthen the defence with regard to picking people up
better but I can't fault the attitude of the team. And Ray Suarrez is very very special; he scores such great goals.
For all that Heath have let in 18 goals in the last five games and there's a lot of work to do.
Norwegian Vikings kept their outside title chances alive with a 2-1 defeat of Cohrrig, a result that probably ends a disappointing challenge by the visitors.
A game of quality throughout started with a flurry, the away side taking the lead with a stunning attack that saw Newsome finish a lay off from Kev Olsen.
But Vikings were back on terms when Lambrotta set up Huber N, 1-1 after just a quarter of an hour. What turned out to be the winner came 8 minutes after
the break and after a protracted piece of play that saw the ball move from one end of the field to then other and back again. Cohrrig's Fantine had been
a key figure in this but Krakow wasted a good position with a needless foul, Sterno Cleido took a quick free kick and Rimmington had the presence of mind to shoot
early and catch Slimane napping.
